Giants vs. White Sox

Two games are under our belts. I hear it's going to rain this weekend. Hopefully we will have a dry window for our game.
We played the White Sox on Saturday. It was such a nice morning, not too cold, not too windy.
The music is JS Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. Bach wrote six concertos for Christian Ludwig, the margrave of Brandenberg-Schwedt, and presented them to him in 1721. I was led to wonder: what's a margrave?
They were medieval military noblemen and noblewomen and they were basically in charge of establishing and protecting borders with neighboring kingdoms in Eastern Europe. In some instances, the margraves had more power than kings and queens because they could engage and attack kingdoms and armies if the borders were breached.
Apparently this margrave liked Bach's music.

Second practice

Most of you will recognize the music as the theme from "The Bad News Bears," the original version with Walter Mathau. Don't even get me started on the version with Billy Bob Thorton.
The music was originally written for the opera "Carmen." It is called Les Toreadors, written by Georges Bizet, and was composed for a bull fighting scene.
There are actually lyrics to the music -- it is an opera of course. Here is a sampling:

Your toast, I can give it to you
Sirs, sirs, for with the soldiers
Yes, the Toreros, can agree;
For pleasure, for pleasure
They have fights!
The arena is full,
it is a celebration day!

This is the English translation. It sounds and reads better in French.
Who knew?

First game: Giants vs. Pirates

What a great morning. It was nice to see all the kids enjoying the opening day of Canyon Country Little League.
Here are some photos from our first game against the Pirates. The music is by Mozart, Serenade No. 13 in G Major, otherwise known as Eine Kleine Nachmusik, loosely translated to mean a little night music.
It is one of Mozart's most recognizable pieces even though it wasn't published until nearly 40 years after his death. It is a mystery to whom Mozart wrote it, but it was composed while he was working on his opera Don Giovanni.
I maybe should have saved this music for our first night game, but it is such a happy little piece that I wanted to use it for our first game.
Enjoy!

First practice

Welcome to the Canyon Country Little League Giants web page. You can find a schedule of games and practices. There will be postings for the Little League carnival and pancake breakfast, plus reminders to sign up and volunteer in the snack stand.
I will be posting photos, slideshows and videos throughout the season. I like to add music to the videos and slideshows.
I put our first practice to "Just Getting Started" from High School Musical 3. I thought it was an appropriate song for our first meeting.
Enjoy!
